Managing Organizational LOS for Hospital Operational Efficiency

By definition, Length of Stay is a metric used to measure the duration of a single episode of hospitalization for a patient. Inpatient days are calculated using this simple formula:

Fixing America, One Hospital at a Time: Real-Time Capacity Management

One-Hospital-at-TimeThere seems to be growing consensus that we can’t fix America without fixing healthcare.

The most recent contribution to that litany comes from Princeton University Professor and former Fed Vice Chairman Alan Blinder, who worked on budget and health care issues as a member of President Clinton’s Council of Economic Advisors.

Author of the new book, After the Music Stopped: The Financial Crisis, the Response, and the Work Ahead, Blinder says the U.S. has “no chance to get the deficit under control” until it “significantly reduces health care spending,” which will eventually “swallow up everything.

Have Trouble Keeping Nurses? Give Them Some TLC

Half of all employees who aren’t involved in decision making, aren’t satisfied with advancement, don’t have flexible work schedules, or aren’t compensated with money or other non-monetary awards said they intended to look for a new job the next year.

That’s from a survey by the American Psychological Association (APA), covering workers from all business sectors.

The research said 93 percent of those who felted valued at work were motivated to do better, while only a third of those who did not feel valued felt motivated.
